Marketing can be complicated, we’ve all made the odd mistake here and there which is fine, as long as you fix it. But many people out there are making some serious mistakes that could be seriously affecting their marketing.
To celebrate the Halloween season we’ve rounded up some scary marketing mistakes that are more common than you’d think.
Forgetting about SEO
So many people neglect SEO but if utilised right it can be a very powerful marketing tool. SEO is a constantly shifting form of marketing so it can be difficult to keep up however if you follow some simple rules that you must include you’ll be doing better than you would otherwise:
Find the right keywords- don’t just focus on the keywords you want to target, also think what people might search for. Tools like SEMrush make this much easier and mean you can see how difficult it is to rank for keywords as well as their search volume. Don’t stuff them either, this was a common thing back in the earlier days of SEO that will get you penalised now.
Don’t neglect backlinks - backlinks from high authority domains will help make your website seem more “trustworthy” in Google’s eyes and raises the domain authority of your site if done correctly.
High-quality content - Quality over quantity is an age-old saying but rings very true for SEO, search engines as a whole prefer content that is high-quality, relevant, and well done. Add in some pictures or videos and you’re doing more than most.
Neglecting Mobile Users
Think about it, how often do you use your phone to access the internet compared to your computer? Google now has a thing called mobile-first indexing, meaning Google predominantly uses the mobile version of the content for indexing and ranking because the majority of online traffic now comes from mobile devices.
This doesn’t mean you need to make an app but consider what your website's mobile experience is like, you can spend thousands on PPC ads sending traffic to your website but if it’s awful to use they’ll leave.
Targeting Everyone
Casting a wide net seems like a great idea when you’re deciding on your ad’s audience. Why wouldn’t you want as many people as possible to see it? Because for the vast majority of people your ads just aren’t relevant so they aren’t going to care.
Spend some time narrowing down your audience and you’ll find you’ll have much more success with your campaigns.
You Have a Slow Website
Slow websites lead to big problems, fast. You’ll spend a lot of time driving people to your website just for them to leave when it takes too long to load. Unfortunately for you, if you have a slow site, people are impatient online, if your site takes more than 4 seconds to load around 25% of people will leave.
Don’t let a slow site ruin your marketing efforts, if need be, spend the extra money to make sure your website loads as fast as possible. This should really be a top priority for your company.
