About The Nominated North East Charities
4Louis
4Louis was founded by Kirsty, Louis' mother, after the heartbreaking stillbirth of her son Louis Robert Joseph on 10th December 2009. Through the grief, Kirsty and her partner Michael wanted to ensure that other families experiencing the loss of a baby had support and memories to hold onto. 4Louis provides memory boxes to hospitals, filled with items such as ink prints and clay impressions, offering grieving families something to cherish during an unimaginable time.

Maxi's Mates
Maxi's Mates was founded on 9th October 2012 by Jane Galliford and Michelle Cooper to raise awareness about abandoned dogs like Maxi, a stray they rescued from a dire situation. Initially supporting dogs at Waterfall Kennels, they focused on those in urgent need of loving homes after being left as strays. Following the closure of Waterfall Kennels, they campaigned, raised funds, and secured their own premises. Opening on 2nd January 2016, Maxi's Mates now hold the Stray Dog contract for Hambleton District Council, Redcar & Cleveland Council, while helping owners with surrenders operating 52 kennels, with plans to expand further.
What they would do with the funds:
With Surge’s marketing support, the charity will be able to build a new website to raise funds and help more strays find loving homes.
ABC Counselling
ABC Counselling provides vital therapy services to children, young people, and families across Tees Valley. As they approach their 10th anniversary in 2025, they’re proud of the difference the services have made in supporting mental health and well-being in the North East. The charity's goal is to continue expanding their counselling services, offering a safe and compassionate space for those in need.
What they would do with the funds:
With Surge’s marketing support, ABC Counselling aims to improve their website and online presence, helping them reach and support even more local children, young people, and their families as the charity moves into their next decade of service.
North East Opera (NEO)
North East Opera (NEO) empowers individuals from diverse and challenging backgrounds, including those who have experienced homelessness, substance-abuse, neurodiversity, or asylum seekers and refugees in Middlesbrough. Originally part of the award-winning Streetwise Opera, NEO became its own charity in January 2023 after the pandemic halted Streetwise's work in the region. Based at Middlesbrough Town Hall, NEO runs weekly workshops at MTH and the Methodist Asylum Project. Through inclusive and creative teaching, they explore music from 80s ballads to opera.
What they would do with the funds:
With Surge's marketing support, North East Opera will benefit from a new website, professional photography, and content writing, helping them to build their online presence and attract wider recognition for the work they do in the community.
