Butchers
North East, UK
Taylor’s Butchers has been a staple in the North East of England since 1922, when Harry Taylor first started his butchery business by traveling around on horseback, setting up stalls in different towns.
Over time, his small operation grew into a successful empire. Today, Taylor’s is a fourth-generation family business, with nine locations across the North East and a wholesale arm that supplies to well-known retailers like John Lewis.
Despite having a strong local presence, Taylor’s Butchers struggled to make a mark online. Their outdated eCommerce website had been underperforming, generating just £7,000 in sales in the year before we got involved.
They were in need of a complete digital overhaul, with the goal of improving online sales, driving traffic to the site, and ultimately boosting conversions. They needed an agency with the right expertise to bring their online business up to speed.
"Our outdates ecommerce website was underperforming and needing a complete digital overhaul with the goal of improving online sales, driving traffic and boosting conversions."

We began by reviewing Taylor’s existing website and digital marketing. After identifying key issues, we recommended a complete eCommerce website redesign and a targeted marketing strategy.
The website revamp was custom-designed to improve user experience and conversions, making online shopping easy and intuitive. We also launched Google Ads and social media campaigns for quick results, while planning for SEO to drive future organic growth.
Since the old website had a low conversion rate of 0.65%, we focused on building a high-converting site before driving traffic, ensuring marketing efforts would lead to sales.
After launching the new website and digital campaigns, Taylor’s Butchers saw a marked improvement in online sales and overall web performance. With a more modern, user-friendly website in place, they were able to attract more visitors and convert them into paying customers at a higher rate.
The digital marketing campaigns effectively boosted brand visibility, while the new website’s improved design and functionality laid the foundation for future growth in both traffic and sales.
"From initially meeting with Surge to look at improving our website, I found the whole process professional and easy. Whilst listening to our needs and views on what the site should look like and feel for the user, Surge’s experience and knowledge of eCommerce sites and usability allowed them to advise us to make the site more user-friendly. The design team worked very closely with us to create a site that fits in with our company image but looks clean and modern. "
